Maiden Voyage

Breakfast and schoolwork. Then westwards to Rockland.

We saw more dolphins on our sail, incredible! I will never tire of these beautiful graceful creatures.

We were averaging about 4.8 knots, not bad. But what was utterly exhausting was having to dodge hundreds of lobster pots.

It is so tiring to have to be so alert ALL the time. The fear of fouling our prop with a lobster line is terrifying. We would have to go below water and cut the line away.

Or worse case scenario, we would be left with a one and a half inch hole where the prop shaft should be, and where water would be gushing in at an incredibly fast rate.

Yeah, lobster pot lines have been known to yank the entire prop off a boat. I have no intention of finding out if our boat is that strong.

When we got to Rockland about 7 hours later, we decided to anchor instead of grabbing a mooring ball from the local marina. Why not since it's free and really there aren't any perks with having a ball here. You still have to pay for showers and there is no launch service.

We were tired and very hungry.

We dingy'd to shore and walked on the main street to look for food. We stumbled upon the movie theater, The Strand, and they were showing MAIDEN, a documentary made about the all female crew in the Whitbred Race!!

I've been wanting to see it since it was released! I couldn't believe it. Suddenly we weren't tired anymore.

It was starting in 30 minutes so we quickly found a diner close by, ordered some fish and chips, wolfed it down and then sprinted back to the theater to see the film.

Besides an IMAX film, this is the first film we have seen as a family. It could not have been more appropriate.

It was truly inspiring. So many good feels. Go and see for yourself!

Hello Atlantic... and lobster pots. You cannot see them very well
in pictures but they are littered everywhere.

Nice crisp sailing day.

We wolfed down this dinner in 10 minutes before the movie.

MAIDEN! Soooooo happy we got to see this together.
