Anice
arrived in Cape Town on Tuesday! She came from Accra, Ghana, where she's doing an internship with
Canadian Crossroads International
, filming the work of various organizations (mainly HIV/AIDS ngo's) to later edit and compile as a video for educational and promotion purposes. We took her to
Rhodes Memorial
for lunch after leaving the airport. See the pics of the view from the memorial. She'll be spending a week in Cape Town and then 2 weeks with us on the road, going through Lesotho and then up to Kruger National Park.
So, naturally, I had planned a lot during her week here. But the moment she landed, she started to get sick. It got so bad I took her to the doctor's early one morning so they could get a blood sample and see if it wasn't malaria. Luckily it wasn't.
In any case, for the majority of her week in glorious Cape Town, even though we didn't go up Table Mountain, visit the Cape of Good Hope, take a jazz township tour, visit the District6 Museum, or other "must-do" tourist things, she certainly made use of her bed and (flush!) toilet.
I played "Big Sister", making congee and bland veggies, nagging her to drink more water and trying to comfort her during a violent vomiting spell at 4am. Oh, and i shared my clothes.
She's come around a lot now and tomorrow we are all going to Robben Island to visit the prison where Nelson Mandela, and so many others, were imprisoned.
