I've Had Better Nights

So about last night. It was awful.

Incessant 45+ knot winds and waves pitched and rolled our boat around like a little toy.

Our mooring lines held but they creaked and moaned with all the strain. Water was coming through the sides and into our cockpit. It was so LOUD inside, like being in a cavernous barrel going down the side of Niagara Falls again and again and again.

Matt tended to us sickos (Tai and I) and stayed on anchor watch for most of the night. I was a complete write off.

Tai slept in the main salon on the bench with a lee cloth, hugging a plastic bowl. Aila climbed into the aft bed with me, also hugging a bowl.

When the sun rose this morning we could clearly see the damage that had wreaked havoc on our neighbours.

All around us there were boats with ripped head sails, torn main sail covers, shredded biminis, dragging dinghys...

All day long the coastguard and launch service were busy answering calls of distress on the VHF.

We spent a second full day on board riding this ongoing storm. We gave homeschooling a miss, I was in no state to play Teacher!

The kids read, sewed, spent hours on Minecraft and doing Lego. We played a board game and listened to a lot of podcasts. We ate crackers, bananas, bread and jam, canned soup and rice.

The storm persists tonight but luckily the winds will only be about 30 knots strong. Hah, never thought I would consider 30 knots "nice"!!

Still, there was a beautiful sunset. Mother Nature sure does have her ways of letting you know she's in charge.

Goodnight from us on SV Anjulia Sue! See you on the other side.

Our trusty lines held onto the mooring ball.

Those are what's left of the sails on the boat next to ours.
Seen 46 knots on the wind instruments

Sunrise! So thankful.
