Newbie Enthusiasm

Day 11. June 8, 2019.

Another glorious sunny day today!

Woke up later than normal but I blame my sore body and last night's late Raptors game.

This morning we went to Lunenburg to get some supplies, tools, equipment and groceries (for some reason we're out of cereal already!

What a beautiful little town. We saw a few square rigs and the Blue Nose too. We didn't stay long at the docks since we had to get some work done today.

Definitely looking forward to coming back with the kids and exploring some more.

Today we completed the sanding of the hull. What a job it was! Only someone with such newbie enthusiasm would do this, someone said to me. They're probably right.

Many people just touch up their bottom paint every so often, and scrub the bottom clean in the water to just get the growth off.

A complete sanding and antifouling of the entire hull doesn't happen that often, maybe every few years or so.

Well, it will be good to know that once this is done, we just need to maintain it properly and not have to repeat this exercise any time soon.

Matt got to work on removing the bulkhead. First he had to get the wine rack out. This required a lot of ingenuity and creativity. The thing is really built in there, screwed in and glued from many edges. If there ever was a big storm or hurricane, your wine and champagne bottles in that holder would survive no problem.

In the end he used an electric power cutter. There, job done.

Tomorrow is our last full day before the kids arrive. We'll do as much as we can, but really, they'll just have to roll up their sleeves and help out as well. We already have a few special tasks ready and waiting for them.

Morning stretch!

Only about 100m between our boat and the water, but so much in between the two!
We will get there one day!

In Lunenburg with a beautiful tall ship.

Lunenburg Boat Locker store. So easy to spend so much money here!

Wine rack removed!

There she is.. the bulkhead.

Tools used to pry out the wine rack.

Our solar lantern, best thing ever. Rain or shine, every night it lights up the
inside of our boat after one day's charging. Even has a USB slot to charge devices!

Dinner on the foredeck: Canned beef stew and bread.
