Delightful Day in Shelburne

We had a glorious sail to Shelburne today. With our full main sail up and a reefed (not quite fully unfurled) jib, we made our way nicely along towards one of Nova Scotia's most beautiful seaside towns.

After about 5 hours, we dropped anchor right in front of Shelburne's yacht club. It's still taking us some time to get used to anchoring but each time we do it, we get much better at it. Same with docking and grabbing a mooring ball.

We used a bridle again so that our windlass is not holding the chain and anchor completely. It would be too much strain.

The bridle is set up just below where the chain is let out at the bow and takes up the weight of the chain down below the water.

I love how we can just drop the hook and stay for free, what a great feeling of independence!

The Founders Festival was happening and the kids went crazy on the bouncy castle. Then we got some hot dogs and ice cream while we watched Shelburne's Got Talent at the bandstand.

What a lively happening town after sleepy Lockeport. Music, kids and entertainment everywhere!

It was brutal hot though so we all went for a swim off the boat before watching the Parade of Lights and the fireworks show.

It was a late night, but we plan to be anchored here at Shelburne for 3 nights so we can catch up on missed sleep later.

After all that wind and salt spray, we slept like logs. Although our anchor alarm app is so loud it would most certainly wake us if we drifted too far. It hasn't happened yet, but when it comes to boating, anything can happen.

Bandstand where Shelburne's Got Talent was happening.
None of us had the nerve to go up and perform.

Only in Canada!

The most glum-looking 7 year old dinghy driver you'll ever see.

Pretty Shelburne's seaside coast.

Time to cool off! It was sooooo hot today!

Eeeeeek! It is a tad cold upon entering, and then it's just bliss.

Listening to the loons and the jet skis.

I must've said something absolutely hilarious.

Warming up with hot noodles after our cold swim. Didn't think we would
eat a hot dinner since the air temperature was about a million
degrees, but we were actually cold!

Parade of Lights. Here was one brilliant sailboat all decked out. So awesome!

Watching the fireworks from our boat. Spectacular!
Could get used to this front row fireworks show.
You feel like you're right in it.

We were heeled quite over, right to the gunwales, but our boat
is solid and sturdy and she handled it like a pro.
